The President General of the Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL), Mr. Alexander A. Suah Sr.,   has termed as false and misleading media report linking him to allegations of financial misappropriation.

The National Executive Council, the highest decision making body of the FRTUL, according to Mr. Suah, quashed the allegations against him following a week-long probe into the claims.

The probe, Mr. Suah stated, took place in Kakata, Margibi County.

“If the highest decision making body of the Union comes with a ruling in a particular complaint filed by some people, I think it is prudent enough to respect constituted authority”, Mr. Suah said.

The Daily Observer Newspaper in its Friday, May 8,2009 edition captioned: FRTUL Boss, Another To Restitute L$122,000, amongst other things,  quoted the ruling  of the National Executive Council of the FRTUL as finding Mr. Suah culpable and using his influence to misapply L$48,000 of the union money.

But Mr. Suah, in an exclusive interview with this paper, rejected the report and clarified that at no point in time did the FRTUL National Executive Council reach such decision.

He further clarified that the council’s decision following an investigation of the matter indicated that the L$48,000 disbursed to executives of the FRTUL should be restituted through his office.

“The Council, in its ruling, said for serving as guarantor for the disbursement of funds to members of the National Executive Board, the office of the President General should ensure that these executives pay back monies disbursed to them,” he told this paper.

The FRTUL boss said the money ordered restituted by the National Executive Council was disbursed through credit or loan, which according to him, falls in his preview.

Mr. Suah said the disbursement of said funds was to seek the welfare of executives of the Union in such a difficult time.

“As a leader, I think it is good to seek the welfare of my executives in times of trouble. But if I used my good office to secure loan for them and they considered that as malpractice, then it is up to them,” Mr. Suah pointed out.

The FRTUL boss added that members of the National Executive Board, who took loan through his office, included: Mr. Obadiah D. Tarlue, Secretary General of FRTUL and former Managing Director of the Monrovia Transit Authority (MTA) (L$20,000), Mr. William Kollie, Deputy Secretary General/FRTUL (L$3,000), Madam Amanda Padmore, Business Manager/FRTUL (L$10,000) amongst others.
